Quality Control Laboratory Supervisor

Job Responsibilities

Work with and manage all aspects of the Quality Control process for daily operations within the assigned NA region, people, process and procedures.

Ensures optimal performance of Quality Control in all its aspects.

Reports on the effectiveness of Quality Control within the organization to the regional site manager.

Strives for Continual Improvement of the process, while working closely with other functional groups, such as Plant Operations, QC management, DLabs, Product Managers, EH&S, Procurement, and Commercial.

Implements the general strategies, policies and directives of the Quaker Houghton Global
Ops/EHS/Procurement organization.

Oversee the QC Lab activities regarding non-conforming batches. Ensure that the non-conforming product investigation and documentation processes follow established procedures.

Perform advanced troubleshooting of QC issues and interface with Production and Development Lab personnel, as appropriate.

Leads the internal and external Quality Board process, and manages the investigation, resolution and documentation of non-conforming products. Documents action items, corrective actions, and the resolution of quality issues through the CAR process.

Supports the investigation of potential quality problems identified by Quaker field personnel and/or customer complaints through the CPR process.

Ensure compliance to SOX, ISO 9001 Quality Management, and RC 14001 EHS programs and provide assistance with internal and external audits.

Facilitate development, implementation and management of key performance indicators (KPl's) for assigned area of responsibility. Generate daily QC Lab quality statistics and summarize them in a monthly Quality Report for each Quaker location.

Ensure the integrity of QC laboratory data. Write, revise and maintain the QC Lab Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instruction documents. Manage the instrument calibration and preventative maintenance program for lab equipment.

Manages and reports on cost center budgets monthly, working with A&A to verify and control all laboratory related costs including supplies and maintenance agreements.

The Quality Control Supervisor reports to the regional Site Manager for all daily Quality Control activities, overall QC performance and general QC matters of the organization with dotted line reporting to the Quality Control Manager for the region regarding internal and external quality board reviews.

Standardize quality control processes, train end users for consistency and monitor daily functions of the QC organization for consistency and clarity.

Develops succession planning backups for future expansion.

Ensure that a safe working environment is maintained in the QC Labs at all times, and that employees comply with all safety regulations.

Education, Experience, Skills & Training:

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or related field is required
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in a quality control environment is required.
  • 2 years supervisory experience desired
  • Should be trained in statistical analysis and be from an ISO-9001 background.

Work Environment

Works in a manufacturing environment and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The associate is exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock and trip and slip hazards. The noise level in the manufacturing environment is loud.

May be required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear
May be required to work in small spaces and high locations
